An on-grid system does not run the AC directly at night. It sends daytime power to the grid and the net meter balances it. To run the AC during power cuts you need a hybrid inverter with batteries, which costs more.

Planning solar and a new AC together?

A 5-star inverter AC needs a smaller solar system. Ask us for the AC side of the plan.

We reply in about 15 minutes, Mon to Sat, 9 AM to 7 PM.

How we calculate

Daily AC units = units per hour × hours per day. Gujarat gets about 5.5 hours of good sun a day. We allow 20% for losses in the inverter, wiring, heat and dust. System kW = daily units ÷ (5.5 × 0.8).

Get the AC right first

A 5-star inverter AC needs about 30% less solar than a 3-star non-inverter. Often the cheaper plan is to replace an old AC first and then size the solar for the new one. Compare with the AC electricity bill calculator.

Common questions

›How many solar panels do I need for a 1.5 ton AC?

For a 5-star inverter 1.5 ton AC at 8 hours a day, about 2 kW of solar, which is 4 panels of 540 W. A non-inverter AC needs about 3 kW.

›Can solar run my AC at night?

An on-grid system cannot run the AC directly at night. It exports daytime power and the net meter offsets your night use. For power cuts you need a hybrid system with batteries.

›Is there a subsidy for home solar?

Yes. Under PM Surya Ghar, homes get ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the 3rd kW, up to ₹78,000. Check the current rules on pmsuryaghar.gov.in.
